Tune in to the Weather Channel on television or the Internet. Interpret the weather person’s language for your child. Conduct your own weather-related experiments. For younger children talk about what the weather is like that day. Select clothes that are appropriate for the weather conditions to wear to school or a friend’s house.

Older students could calculate the average temperatures for a month and estimate the amount of precipitation. A graph could be constructed using the computer to compare rainfall in one of their favorite cities to their home city. Your child may be interested in weather extremes like the coldest or hottest places. You could locate those on a map and note the difference in temperature to your own climate.

Warnings about natural disasters could be used as a springboard to learn more about that event. Weather simulations could be an experiment to set up at home.
